After creating the first Nautilus, I decided to do a second, version using much smaller 5/8″ slate and marble tiles. Although using smaller tiles takes the same amount of work and time, the finished work is lighter and at only 15″ x 20.5″ , is much easier to hang.
Through scratch work, I coaxed lighter areas into the tiles to further refine the overall image.
