Rough Angel

rough-angel-pano-flat

The inspiration for this came from a sketch of an angel done by Leonardo DaVinci for the painting “Virgin of the Rocks”. I used over 1200 split face scabos travertine tiles to complete the piece.  The uneven rough front surface of the tiles hides the image in shadows when viewed in direct overhead light.

The piece is unframed but does have a custom frame behind it which allows it to be carried and hung without damaging the tiles. This enables the image to appear to float on the wall.
